Pandit Mani Prasad is a leading vocal exponent of Hindustani classical music, and is widely recognized as a pre-eminent representative of the Kirana gharana.

Panditji was raised in an atmosphere of Hindustani classical music and started his Sangeet Sadhana (devotion to music) in early childhood, receiving training from his father Pandit Sukhdev Prasad, and his grandfather Pandit Shakti Lal, both of whom were noted for their musical purity. He was later guided by his uncles Pandit Shankar Lal, and Pandit Gopal Prasad.

Notably, Pandit Mani Prasad is ranked as a Topgrade artist by India’s esteemed national radio network, All India Radio (AIR), one of the highest accolades an Indian classical musician can receive in his country.

He regularly performs throughout India in major festivals such as Radio Sangeet Sammelan, and performs for AIR’s nationally broadcasted classical music programs, as well as for various television networks, including Doordarshan, India’s national television network.

In addition to his successes in India, he has travelled the globe sharing his art with audiences worldwide. He has performed in the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Africa, USSR, and various Middle Eastern countries, receiving great appreciation for his artistry wherever he sings . On the occasion of the Fifth Festival of Arts of India in London, the High Commissioner of India to the U.K. remarked, “your performance has helped bring understanding of India’s cultural heritage”.

Panditji has also been honored with many awards throughout his musical career. Amongst them is the Raseshwar Award, given by Sur Singar Samsad of Mumbai, the Swarmani Award, which he received in 1980 in New Delhi, and the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Academy Award.

Furthermore, Pandit Mani Prasad wishes to share his musical knowledge, spreading the musical tradition he has received from his forefathers through the Guru-Shishya Parampara. His students are numerous and many accomplished singers themselves, including his sons Deepak Kumar, and Lalit Kumar.

Panditji has released numerous audio and video recordings which are available worldwide.
