Pandit Mani Prasad is a leading
vocal exponent of Hindustani classical music,
and is widely recognized as a pre-eminent representative
of the Kirana gharana.
Panditji was raised in an atmosphere
of Hindustani classical music and started his
Sangeet Sadhana (devotion to music) in early
childhood, receiving training from his father
Pandit Sukhdev Prasad, and his grandfather Pandit
Shakti Lal, both of whom were noted for their
musical purity. He was later guided by his uncles
Pandit Shankar Lal, and Pandit Gopal Prasad.
Notably, Pandit Mani Prasad is
ranked as a Topgrade artist by India’s
esteemed national radio network, All India Radio
(AIR), one of the highest accolades an Indian
classical musician can receive in his country.
He regularly performs throughout
India in major festivals such as Radio Sangeet
Sammelan, and performs for AIR’s nationally
broadcasted classical music programs, as well
as for various television networks, including
Doordarshan, India’s national television
network.
In addition to his successes in
India, he has travelled the globe sharing his
art with audiences worldwide. He has performed
in the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Africa, USSR,
and various Middle Eastern countries, receiving
great appreciation for his artistry wherever
he sings . On the occasion of the Fifth Festival
of Arts of India in London, the High Commissioner
of India to the U.K. remarked, “your performance
has helped bring understanding of India’s
cultural heritage”.
Panditji has also been honored
with many awards throughout his musical career.
Amongst them is the Raseshwar Award, given by
Sur Singar Samsad of Mumbai, the Swarmani Award,
which he received in 1980 in New Delhi, and
the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Academy Award.
Furthermore, Pandit Mani Prasad
wishes to share his musical knowledge, spreading
the musical tradition he has received from his
forefathers through the Guru-Shishya Parampara.
His students are numerous and many accomplished
singers themselves, including his sons Deepak
Kumar, and Lalit Kumar.
Panditji has released numerous
audio and video recordings which are available
