Born on January 5th, 1981, Farhan
Khan comes from a lineage of great musicians.
He has been brought up totally under the tutelage
of his father, Ustad Rais Khan, an exponent
of the Mewat Gharana Baaj. He was put under
rigorous training of both the sitar and the
surbahar, or bass sitar, by his father from
the tender age of nine. The clarity of Farhan
Khan’s taans and his sense of laya at
his young age is truly beyond one’s expectations.
His style of playing, especially the taans,
truly represent the gayaki-ang.
Farhan Khan gave his first public
performance at the Nazrul Manch in Calcutta
on January 9th, 1991. Aged only ten at that
time, he played to the delight of a packed audience,
there with his father, and was accompanied on
the tabla by the phenomenal Ustad Zakir Hussain.
Since then he has been touring extensively with
his father throughout the world, and he continues
to entertain audiences with his skills wherever
he plays. |
